PEMBROKESHIRE COAST PATH

June 15 –July 02, 2017

Wales, United Kingdom

Margit & Christian

We started this trip by taking a train from London to Kilgetty. A very short bus ride later we arrived at Wiseman's Bridge from where we started our hike, only a few km South of the official start in Amroth. From there the path leads 300 km along the beautiful coastline of Pembrokeshire. We of course only hiked parts and bits of it, wrapping up the trip in St. David's which lies further North after having hiked approximately 80 km in total. We had to leave out many parts (shortcutting with the excellent local bus service) due to time restrictions and only walked the most beautiful sections that were highly recommended to us (particularly Skomer Island with their cute Puffin birds). We had incredible luck with the weather and according to the locals we had been in the middle of the hottest and longest dry and heat spell in Wales since 1976, reaching the peak of 30 degrees by hiking day 6! After that it was cooler but still sunny! We camped almost all the way and only once induldged in the luxury of a nice room in a very authentic pub in the quiet village of Solva. If you watch the pictures and wonder about Margit's injuries: She tripped and crashed head-on into the asphalt of the beautiful seaside town of Tenby, leaving her with bruises on her hands, rips and chin, a broken finger and a beautiful shiner on her left eye! She bravely continued to hike and eventually recovered fully!

And back in Easy Putney, in London's beautiful Soutwest we went to see the qualification tournament for the upcoming Wimbledon tournament!
